These terms are the agreement between you and us for the use of Spotter. By downloading or using the app, you accept them. If you don't accept them, don't use the app.
1. What Spotter is
Spotter is an AI-assisted barbell strength-training app. It uses your phone's camera to score squat reps on depth and tempo on your device, provides fixed training programs, adjusts your working weights based on the sets you complete, and generates short written coaching notes.
Camera scoring currently applies to the squat only. Other lifts are logged by hand.
2. Not medical advice
Spotter provides general fitness information and automated coaching. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for a physician, physiotherapist, or qualified strength coach.
Lifting weights carries an inherent risk of serious injury. Before starting any program:
- Consult a qualified professional, particularly if you are new to lifting, are returning from injury, are pregnant, or have any medical condition.
- Train within your limits, use safety pins or a rack you can bail out of, and know how to fail a lift safely.
- Stop immediately if you feel pain.
The app's scores measure depth and tempo only. They do not assess your back position, knee tracking, bracing, joint health, or whether a given weight is safe for you today. You remain responsible for your own technique, your equipment, and your training decisions.
3. Automated coaching output
The rep scores, weight recommendations and written coaching notes are produced automatically, partly by AI, and may be wrong. The camera can miscount or misjudge a rep. Treat every output as a suggestion to be checked against your own judgement, never as an instruction to follow blindly. Do not attempt a weight you are not confident you can complete safely, whatever the app suggests.
4. Subscriptions and payment
- Spotter is a paid auto-renewable subscription. Current prices and terms are shown in the app before you subscribe.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Where a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited if you subscribe before it ends.
- Purchases are made from Apple and refunds are handled by Apple under its own terms. We cannot issue refunds directly.
5. Your data
Spotter requires no account, and your training data is stored on your own device. Your workout video never leaves your phone. See our Privacy Policy for the detail.
6. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the service: don't attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to it, don't use it unlawfully, and don't use it to harm anyone. We may suspend access to the coaching service if it is being abused.
7. Intellectual property
The app, its training programs, its content and its brand belong to us. Using the app doesn't transfer any of that to you. Your own workout data is yours.
8. Warranties and liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind except those that cannot be excluded by law. We do not warrant that scoring will be accurate or that the service will be uninterrupted.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of Spotter, including reliance on its scores, weight recommendations or coaching output.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law that applies to you. If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local consumer law gives you, and nothing here overrides them.
9. Changes
We may change or discontinue features, and we may update these terms. If a change is material we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
10. Governing law
⚠️ To be completed by counsel: the governing law and competent jurisdiction, together with the mandatory carve-out preserving a consumer's right to bring proceedings in their country of residence.
